How to perform :
- Place the small finger on the base of the Thumb and press it with the Thumb.
- The other fingers are kept straight and relaxed.
- Place the palms, face up, on your knees or thighs.
- Keep your spine and head straight, shoulders relaxed.
- Perform the mudra with both hands.
Benefits of Jal Shaamak mudra :
- Jal Shaamak mudra brings about a reduction of the Water Element in the body.
- When the Small Finger (representing the Water Element) is pressed by the Thumb (Fire) it brings about a suppression of the Water Element .
- Since this mudra affects the water metabolism, it is used to overcome water logging within the body.
- Water is a component of the two doshas - Pitta + Kapha. Jal Shaamak mudra reduces the Pitta and Kapha doshas in the body.
- Thus, people having an aggravated Pitta + Kapha dosha can benefit from performing this mudra.
