How to perform :

  1. Place the small finger on the base of the Thumb and press it with the Thumb.
  2. The other fingers are kept straight and relaxed.
  3. Place the palms, face up, on your knees or thighs.
  4. Keep your spine and head straight, shoulders relaxed.
  5. Perform the mudra with both hands.

Benefits of Jal Shaamak mudra :

  • Jal Shaamak mudra brings about a reduction of the Water Element in the body.
  • When the Small Finger (representing the Water Element) is pressed by the Thumb (Fire) it brings about a suppression of the Water Element .
  • Since this mudra affects the water metabolism, it is used to overcome water logging within the body.
  • Water is a component of the two doshas - Pitta + Kapha. Jal Shaamak mudra reduces the Pitta and Kapha doshas in the body.
  • Thus, people having an aggravated Pitta + Kapha dosha can benefit from performing this mudra.

  • Excess salivation
  • Watery Eyes
  • Running Nose
  • Hyper-acidity
  • Diarrhea (loose motions)

Precautions  : 
Stop performing the mudra as soon as the disease has been overcome.
