What are Meridians

  • According to Chinese Medicine, meridians are the pathways through which Qi or energy flows, just like the arteries carry blood.
  • They run vertically through the body.
  • The meridian system brings vitality and balance, removes blockages, adjusts metabolism, and much more.
  • Meridians affect every organ and every physiological system, including the immune, nervous, endocrine, circulatory, respiratory, digestive, skeletal, muscular, and lymphatic systems.
  • Each system is fed by at least one meridian.
  • Each meridian goes through at least 2 organs and is thus named according to that organ. For example, the Liver Meridian, the Gall Bladder Meridian, etc.
  • If a meridian's energy is obstructed or unregulated, the system it feeds is jeopardized.
  • There are 12 main Meridians that carry energy into your body, circulating it throughout the body.
  • The meridian pathways connect hundreds of tiny points of heat and electromagnetic energy along the surface of the skin.
  • These are the acupuncture points.
  • These can be stimulated with needles or physical pressure to release or redistribute energy along the meridian pathway.
  • Each of the twelve standard meridians is either connected to a hand or a foot.
  • Three meridians originate in either one of their associated organs and end in the hand.
  • Three other meridians originate in the hand, go through their two organs, and end in the head.
  • The rest of the six meridians originate in the foot or end in the foot.
