Dirgha Svara Mudra (Asthma mudra)

How to perform :
- Hold the hands facing each other in front of the chest, with fingers pointing upwards.
- Bend the Middle Fingers downwards and press the nails of the Middle Fingers against each other.
- Extend the other fingers straight up, with palms joined at the base.
- Keep the shoulders relaxed and elbows slightly away from the body.

Keep the spine straight.
Benefits of Dirgha Svara Mudra :
- Regular practice of this Mudra helps to reduce the harmful effects of asthma.
- Dirgha Svara mudra expands the entire rib cage.
- This helps to release the chronic contraction of the smooth muscles that line the respiratory tract. With the bronchial spasm relieved, breathing becomes easier.
- This mudra helps to treat as well as prevent attacks of asthma.
- During an acute attack of Asthma, first practice the Poorna Svara Mudra till the breath is normalized. Then practice Dirgha Svara Mudra.
- Regular practice of ten minutes twice a day or 5 minutes thrice a day will be useful to prevent future attacks.
Precaution :-
Practice this mudra during an asthma attack only after practicing the Poorna Svara Mudra.
Use as preventive. It should not be practiced during crisis.
