How to perform :
- Join together the tips of the Thumb and index finger.
- The other fingers are kept straight and relaxed.
- Place the palms, face-up, on your knees or thighs.
- Keep your spine and head straight, shoulders relaxed.
- Perform the mudra with both hands.
Benefits of Gyan mudra:
- Gyan mudra is a gem amongst mudras. It is also the most common mudra.
- The best asana in which to perform this mudra is the Padmasana or the Sukhasana.
- The Gyan mudra increases the vayu element in the body.
- Vayu causes movement and thoughts. Agni is related to the brain. Vayu and Agni together control the mind. That is why this mudra is called the Mudra of Knowledge.
- The reinforced air or Vayu empowers the mind, causing a positive effect on emotions, helping to get rid of negative thoughts.
- It empowers the nervous system, including the brain.
