- Each Prana Kirya mudras has practical application and spiritual effect.
- In these mudras – fire touches with air.
- Each finger represents something :
- Thumb - Universal Self.
- Index Finger - Individual Self.
- Middle Finger - Ego.
- Ring Finger - Maya, the illusory world.
- Small Finger - Worldly Actions & Reactions.
- As the individual self (index finger) reaches out to seek the universal self (thumb), moving away from involvement with ego (middle finger), Maya (ring finger), and worldly reactions (little finger), the Universal Self reaches down with grace and showing itself as itself, takes the individual self into itself.
- The Prana Kirya mudras are energetic mudras (prana = life force; kriya = cleansing).
-
They are used to induce a progressively deep, open, and alert meditative awareness.
-
They do not channel the actual breath, they channel the life force itself.
-
Therefore you need to be subtle in your observation when performing these mudras.
-
Practice these mudras always as a set just before meditation or when the mind is in need of a strong, calming influence.
