What is Panchtrin mool ?

  • Panchtrin mool consists of dried rootstock to treat urinary diseases, dysuria, anuria, kidney disorders, nephritis, supports healthy blood circulation, chronic diseases, hypertension, hepatotoxicity, hyperglycemia, inflammation.
  • In Sanskrit "Panch" means five, "Mool" means roots, "Trin" means grass. It is a combination of 5 grassroots. These are "Kusha" (Desmostachya bipinnata), "Kasha" (Saccharum spontaneum), "Shara" (Saccharum munja), "Darbha" (Imperata cylindrical), "Ikshu": Sugarcane (Saccharum officinarum).
  • Components: "Ikshu" contains carbohydrates, amino acids, vitamins, flavonoids, etc; "Shara" mainly contains carbohydrates; "Kasha" contains proteins, glycosides, flavonoids, etc.; "Darbha" mainly contains 5 triterpenoids viz. cylindrin, arundorin, ferneon, soburneol and simiarenol; and Kush contains terpenoids, flavonoids, etc.
  • Panchtrin mool found mainly in Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Bengal, and Odisha.

Availability:

  • These are available in Churna (Powder) form.
  • 5 ingredients (10 gm) are added to 16 parts of water, boiled and reduced to 1/4th part, filtered, and used.

Benefits of Panchtrin mool:

  • Panchtrin mool maintains healthy kidneys. It eliminates excess water with the toxin from the body without unbalancing electrolytes thus supports the kidney. It is helpful for Kidney stone patients. The stone size decreases, then flush out through the kidney.
  • It cleanses the urinary bladder. It is used in the treatment of difficulty and pain during urination, burning urination. It stimulates the organ functional ability of the urinary system. It increases urine production with eases the flow of urine.
  • It decreases the level of urine albumin and pus cells and reduces the burden on the kidney.
  • It supports blood circulation and also maintains a healthy metabolism.

  • Acharya Charak named as "TrinPanchMul". Acharya Susruta describes it as "Trinsanga", Acharya Bhagvatta in Astanga Hridayam named as "Trinakhya".
  • It balances all the three "doshas" (physical energies) "Vata", "Pitta", "Kapha" in the body.
  • "Ptija kasa": It is useful in cough due to "Pitta".
  • Its quality is "Veerya" - "Sheeta": Stops water absorption and increases urine output and "Ushna": Rejuvenates Nephron, increases blood pressure and urine formation.
  • "Pittasamaribhedan" / "Pittajgulmabhedan":It alleviates Pitta. Removes Urinary tract stone.
  • "Mutrakchh": Helps in dysuria.
  • "Trishna" - "Mutraghat Chikistcha"- Treats urine-related problems.  "Daha": in case of burning sensation, Kwath or Kashayam is used for it.
