What is Guggul:

  • Guggul is also known as "Indian Bdellium" is made from the sap (gum resin) of the Commiphora Mukul tree, which is native to India. This tree has been used in Ayurvedic medicine for centuries, and Ayurvedic texts dating back to 600 BC recommend it for treating atherosclerosis.

How is it prepared and available:

  • Guggul is made from the oily sap (resin or gum) of the guggul tree, It is available in the form of powder/extract, tablet or capsule, paste.
  • 1/4 teaspoon of Guggul powder/extract is added in lukewarm water and sip it 1  to 2 times per day.
  • 1 to 2 Guggul tablets should be taken with lukewarm water 2 times per day.
  • Guggul powder is mixed with an adequate amount of water to make the thick paste for its application on joints to avoid pain once per day.

What are its benefits:

  • Guggul lowers serum triglycerides and cholesterol levels as well as LDL and VLDL cholesterols (bad cholesterols) and raises levels of HDL cholesterol (good cholesterols).
  • Guggul is responsible for "decreased thickness of joint swelling". Taking guggul 3000 mg daily for 4 months can improve symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis and taking 500 mg of guggul three times daily might improve arthritis pain.
